This meetup is posted on its own website here: www.meetup.com/ChicagoEuroBoardgames
We will be starting at 11:00 am, and ending around 5:00 pm. Mystic Celt has a full menu and bar for food and drink. They are steps from the brown line "Southport" stop, and there is generous metered parking.
We play various strategy boardgames, also called "Eurogames" or "designer games". If you aren't familiar with that terminology, you may recognize a few of the most popular titles, like Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Puerto Rico, Agricola, Ra, and Race for the Galaxy. As quoted on Wikipedia, Eurogames are "usually less abstract than chess, but more abstract than wargames. Likewise, they generally require more thought and planning than party games, such as Pictionary or Trivial Pursuit, but less than strategy games, such as chess and Go".
If you have a specific game you wish to play, bring it along. Otherwise, you'll likely have a broad choice of games to learn and play because several members usually bring lots of different types of games ranging from "light and frothy" to "heavy and thoughtful", with many choices in between. Most members are very happy to teach you any game you want to learn.
Mystic Celt has a huge events room for us to use, as well as a full menu and bar to order from. The specials for Saturdays are:
$3 Miller Lite Pints
$4 Coronas
$5 All Bombs & Shots
$4 Captain Morgan Drinks
$5 Jumbo Wings (10)
